MakerSTEM-Science is Creative, Failing is Mandatory

  • June 8, 2019
Science is creative, failing is mandatory.

Our second official session focused on developing scientific questions, experiencing different methods of sample collecting and developing microscope skills. Participants tried different research methods used to sample plankton, sand grain size and fish tissue.

The first step in creating a scientific question.
Microtome.
Microtomes are used to slice extremely thin sections of fish tissue to examined under a scope.
Sand from two different Oahu beaches was sifted and measured using sieves of different sizes.
Scopes were employed to examine individual sand grains and what they were made of.
Fine mesh nets towed through the water collect plankton, which were identified, viewed and photographed through scopes and sketching.
