sencer-lab2Dr. Lemus was pleased to be part of the 2016 SENCER Hawaii Regional Institute, hosting the group at HIMB on Sunday, March 13.  Coordinated by the National Center for Science and Civic Engagement, SENCER is a 15-year program funded by the National Science Foundation to promote “Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibility”. Approximately 25 college educators from a variety of institutions participated in a 2-day workshop that covered SENCER theory and practice, integrating civic engagement and indigenous knowledge, creating new courses, how to “SENCERize” an existing science course, and successful models being implemented in Hawaii.  Dr. Lemus was especially pleased to be able to share information with these colleagues about the HIMB MakerLab project she is developing.
