MakerSTEM-Coral Reefs Part 2

Learning how to do transects and collect data underwater.

Our final session explored the details of doing field work—on the same coral reef we visited earlier in the year.
Participants first learned the art of using a transect and quadrat on dry land before heading into the water to collect data while snorkeling.

They were asked to analyze, interpret and present their observations using infographics after learning a bit more about interpreting information using graphs, charts, icons and illustrations.

Our Special Guest Sara Taliaferro, President of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators (GNSI),  gave examples from her career, as a scientific illustrator, of how visual communication helps tell the story of science in her presentation: “I Want Mine With Pictures.”
